About Lexo

Lexo gives you six tries to find today's five-letter word. Type any real five-letter word and press Enter, and the tiles grade it: green means the letter is correct and in the right position, amber means it belongs to the word but sits somewhere else, and grey rules it out entirely. Every player on the site gets the same word, and a new one arrives at midnight UTC.

The difficulty is not vocabulary, it is bookkeeping. By the third guess you are holding a set of constraints — letters confirmed, letters placed wrongly, letters eliminated — and the guess that feels most likely to be right is usually worth less than the guess that splits the remaining candidates in half. Players lose far more often to a hunch played early than to a word they had never met.

Solve it each day to build a streak; miss one and the counter returns to zero. Playing signed in keeps that streak across devices and puts your result on the day's leaderboard.

Tips to win

  • Open with a word rich in common letters — RAISE or STONE covers three vowels and several frequent consonants
  • Spend guess two testing the letters guess one ruled in, rather than chasing an early win
  • From guess three, list the words that fit every clue and pick the one that eliminates the most of them
  • An amber letter is information about position as well as presence: it cannot go back where you just tried it
