Trivia and quiz games
Quiz games come in two broad kinds. Trivia games test what you know, whether that is general knowledge, geography, film, sport or a particular topic, usually with multiple-choice answers and often against a timer. Personality quizzes work the other way round: there are no right answers, and your choices place you into a result, which is part of the fun of sharing them.
Trivia is the more competitive of the two. It rewards a broad base of knowledge and quick recall, and many trivia games track scores or streaks so you can try to beat your best.
Answering questions you are not sure of
You know more than you think, and multiple choice lets you use it. Start by eliminating the answers you are confident are wrong; ruling out two of four options doubles your chance of guessing correctly. Be wary of absolute words such as always and never, which make an answer easier to disprove. And if you change an answer, do it because you have thought of a concrete reason, not because of a vague unease.
Don't dwell on a question you can't answer. On a timed quiz, those seconds are usually better spent on the next question than on a guess you cannot improve.
Learning from quizzes
The most reliable way to get better at trivia is to pay attention to the questions you get wrong. Each wrong answer tells you exactly what you didn't know, and the right answer is much easier to remember when it has just surprised you. The same broad topics come up again and again, so a few weeks of regular play builds a surprisingly useful base of knowledge.
Try the categories you normally avoid. They are where each question is most likely to teach you something new, and the gaps in your knowledge are usually easier to fill than they look.
A lighter kind of challenge
Quizzes are among the most social games in the catalogue: easy to share, quick to finish and fun to compare. If you want a daily challenge that everyone plays together, our daily word game Lexo gives every player the same puzzle each day, and Beeline does the same with seven letters.
