About Block Puzzle

Drag pieces from the tray onto the grid. Fill a row or a column from end to end and it clears; fill several with one piece and they all clear at once, for more than they would be worth one at a time. Three pieces are dealt together, all three have to go down before the next three arrive, and the game ends when nothing left in the tray has anywhere to fit. Pieces never rotate, so the shape you are handed is the shape you have to find room for.

Clearing lines on consecutive pieces builds a combo that multiplies every clear after it. The combo survives as long as you clear something at least once every three pieces, so the game rewards keeping a line nearly finished and ready rather than filling the board evenly. Empty the board completely and you earn a bonus on top.

The daily challenge starts everyone on the same eight-by-eight board with a symmetrical pattern of stone blocks already in place, and deals the same pieces to anyone who plays the same moves, with a leaderboard for the day's best score. Classic is an empty eight-by-eight board, and the big board is ten by ten for a longer game.

Tips to win

• Keep one corner of the board free for the three-by-three square and the long five-block bars, which fit nowhere else late in a game
• Place the awkward piece of each tray first, while there is still room for it, and the small ones last
• Build towards a crossing row and column: one piece that finishes both clears far more than two separate lines
• A single empty cell boxed in on all sides can only ever take the one-block piece, so avoid leaving them
