About BearShift

BearShift is a sliding block puzzle where each level is a grid containing a bear, an open gate, and several movable blocks. The player slides blocks one cell at a time into adjacent empty spaces, rearranging the grid to create a continuous path of empty cells from the bear's starting position to the gate. When such a path exists, the bear automatically walks through it and the level is completed. The bear itself is not controlled directly; only the blocks can be moved.

The challenge comes from the limited empty space and the blocking arrangement. As levels progress, more blocks crowd the grid, forcing careful sequencing to avoid trapping the bear or creating dead ends. Each slide matters because moving a block too far can block potential routes, and some blocks may need to be returned to earlier positions. The puzzle tests spatial reasoning and planning ahead.

Tips to win

  • Plan the path backwards from the gate: identify which blocks must be moved and in what order to open a route.
  • Avoid pushing blocks into corners where they block potential exits; try to keep open areas for maneuvering other blocks.
  • If you get stuck, undo a few moves and look for a block that can be shifted to create more working space.
