About Arrow Escape

A square board packed with arrows, each a bent line of squares ending in a head that points up, down, left or right. Tap an arrow and it slides away head first, its body following behind — but only if nothing stands between its head and the edge of the board. If something does, it bumps into it and slides back, and that costs one of your three hearts.

So the puzzle is order: find the arrows that are free now, and see which ones each of them is holding in. Clearing one opens the way for others, until the whole tangle comes apart. Every board is built so it can be cleared — arrows were laid one at a time, each with its way out clear of the ones already down — so there is always a way through, and never a guess you are forced to make.

The daily board is ten by ten, the same for everyone, timed, with thirty seconds added for each bump; run out of hearts and the board resets while the clock runs on. The numbered levels grow from six by six to twelve by twelve, with stars for clearing a board without a bump.

Tips to win

• Look along each head's line to the edge before you tap
• Arrows at the rim pointing outward are the usual way in
• Clear the arrows lying across many others' paths first
• A long bent arrow can block several lines at once — free it early
