Obby & Dead River casts you as a lone warrior who must traverse a hazardous 3D course set along a lethal waterway. You guide the character through floating platforms, crumbling bridges, and castle corridors, using precise jumps to avoid falling into the river. Along the way, hostile monsters, pirates, and dragons block your path; you fight them in real time by attacking with your equipped weapon. Defeated enemies drop resources that let you upgrade your arsenal between sections.

The game mixes timing-based platforming with direct combat, so you constantly switch between dodging environmental hazards and engaging enemies. Later stages demand both quick reactions and strategic use of stronger weapons. Checkpoints are sparse, so a misstep or a lost fight can send you back a good distance. The final boss requires mastery of both movement and attack patterns, testing everything you have learned.
